Tampa, Florida
April 1-4, 2019

Tampa, Florida

I am delighted to be returning to Tampa again. The workshop will be held at the Kerry Vosler Studio & Atelier. The studio is in a cigar factory that has incredible history and ambience. The studio is spacious and accommodating.

With its mix of old world architecture, ocean views, beautiful sunsets and parks, there is almost too paint. Plus the city has great food and other amenities. Tampa proved to be a perfect place for a workshop. It will be a lot of fun as well.

Rancho Santa Cruz, Tumacacori, Arizona
May 13 -16, 2019

Rancho, Santa Cruz, Tumacacori, Arizona

I was recently introduced to a beautiful B&B ranch in Tumacacori, Arizona. It is a few miles south of Tubac which is a delightful art oriented city. The ranch has been restored to its glory days on the 30's, 40's and 50's . With its gorgeous furnishings in the guest rooms, porches, gallery and outdoor pool, hiking trails and more, it is an opportunity to experience the Old West lifestyle and a piece of history that is almost lost in time. And did I mention the beautiful landscape?

I will do a 4 day workshop, but plan on staying an extra day or two because there is so much to see and do in Southern Arizona. Tubac alone, with all of its history would take days to explore.

Plus Tubac has fabulous restaurants too.

Tuition is $375. You can register with a $100 deposit, with full payment due a month before the workshop. I will be happy to answer any questions regarding the workshop via my email at

Dillman's Art Retreats, Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin
Sept 15-20, 2019

Dillman's Art Retreats, Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin

Dillman’s Bay Resort, in the beautiful Wisconsin Northwoods, is a classic workshop paradise. Lush woods, water views, beautiful grounds and flowers: almost too much to paint. The facilities are excellent, with lots of room, and conveniences such as refrigerators, library, and more. There are wonderful restaurants nearby for dinner.

I combine painting outdoors with learning to finish paintings indoors. We work with or around the weather, which is usually beautiful, but can be windy. This is four day workshop with painting time and instruction.

The best part is that many workshop participants stay locally at Dillman's, so the added benefit is sometimes painting a glorious sunset. I hope you can join me for this special workshop. Please call 715-588-3143 or email

October 12-20, 2019

Optional Extension in Lisbon
October 20–22, 2019
Non-artists more than welcome with plenty to do.

Cascais is a lovely summer resort village overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It is a village of fishermen, glorious beaches, fabulous shops, and delicious cuisine. As we will be there after the crush of the summer we should have the place all to ourselves. There are markets, a fortress, the Museum of the Sea. Plenty to do and if you wish to do nothing that is possible too.

Our lovely, grand hotel is the Pentana Cidadela Pousada Art Hotel. It has old world charm with modern day amenities. We will have a full breakfast daily. Attached is the link to the website. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE RESERVATIONS. We will be getting a discount for a large group. Just check out the images.

Pentana Cidadela Pousada Art Hotel website

It is located 0.3 miles from the city center – a short walk. They offer all the amenities as well as free WIFI.

During the week we will have the use of vans for two days to go out in the country side. I suggest one day that we all go to Sintra to visit the Pena Palace. Shops are wonderful here as are the restaurants. It might be a good place to sketch, however, it will be full of tourists so it is not a very good site to paint. The second day outing is to be decided.

On October 19th the whole group will pack up and leave Cascais for a Full Day Tour of the area. First we are off to the Queluz Palace built in 1747 of pink stone, modeled after Versailles. The gardens are exquisite and unique plus there is a tiled canal where the nobles played water games. Then we are off to Nazare situated on the Atlantic Ocean. The seafood is outstanding – dutch treat luncheon. Plus one might see the women who help the fishermen with their multi skirts and boots. It is all very picturesque!! Afterwards we go to Obidos, a medieval walled 14th century city with white washed houses and churches.

The night of October 19th will be spent in Lisbon at the Lisboa Plaza Hotel. The next morning you may depart for the USA or extend for two more nights departing then on October 22, 2019.

Our hotel in Lisbon is family owned and operated, The Lisboa Plaza. It has a very central location right off a main boulevard, but on a tiny street which is quiet. This hotel has an "old world" ambiance to it and is a favorite of mine. Rooms are lovely with all the amenities. There is a beautiful room for breakfast which is extensive. The Front Desk is very helpful for any extras or dinner reservations.

Included in our optional extension tour will be a Half Day City Orientation Tour of most of the areas of town so that you have a feeling of the geography. We will see the Alfama area or old town built on the slope of a hill crowned by the Castelo de Sao Jorge (Castle St George). We will also go to the out lying part of the city known as Belem. There you will see the Mosteirio dos Jeronimas, Jeronimus Monastery of Gothic architecture. Also, the Torre de Belem, a fortress at the mouth of the harbor. A landmark for many famous explorers setting sail in the 16th century.

In Lisbon you have the upper town known as the Bairro Alto and the lower town or Baixa. You will find a 1902 Elevador de Santa Justa in a Gothic style tower to go between. Sometimes it is working and sometimes it does not. It is fun though to ride the cable car between the upper and lower towns.

There are plenty of important museums. One not to be missed is the tile museum called the Museu National do Azuelejo housed in a convent. Azuelejos are the gorgeous glazed blue and white tiles which you will see all over the city and are indigenous to Portugal. Some cover a whole wall depicting a mural. Another museum is the Museu Calouste Gulbenkian with many rare object d’arte. It is one very wealthy man's collection of art over his lifetime. If you are interested in Port Wine then the Instituto do Vinho do Porto is for you. For those of you who love the decorative arts there is a restored 17th century Palace, Museu Escola de Artes Decorativas.

Also, one evening you will want to hear Fado music typical only of Portugal. It is music of longing and of lost love.

It will be a wonderful workshop.

Ecuador, February 6, 2020

Vilcabamba, Ecuador

I invite you to join me in beautiful Ecuador. The city, Vilcabamba is a popular tourist destination located near the Podocarpus National Park.

The Podocarpus is a massive protected cloud forest that's called the 'Crown Jewel' in Ecuador's national park system.

We will be staying at The Garden of Paradise which lies in a gorgeous natural setting. Its border, the lovely Vilcabamba River, flows over rocks and boulders on a gentle downhill slope.

Located in 4 degrees south of the equator, Vilcabamba enjoys a very comfortable year-round spring-like climate. You can see from the photos that in this workshop we really will be painting Paradise.

Please check back here for future dates.

Plein Air Workshop at the Art Colony Studio, Prallsville Mill, Stockton, NJ

Plein Air Workshop at the Art Colony Studio, Prallsville Mill, Stockton, NJ

I recently taught a workshop at THE ART COLONY STUDIO in Prallsville Mill, Stockton NJ. This is one of the most beautiful places in the USA. I am excited to be planning another one for another fall season.

The studio is a large, well lit facility. It is very comfortable and near good restaurants and beautiful locations. There is so much variety to paint, which makes the workshop fun and successful.

It is an honor for me to teach at the Art Colony Studio that was developed by one of my dearest friends, artist Ty Hodanish. I can only try to fill the gap he has left. Ty and I met as teacher and student, but over the years he inspired me! He was brilliant, kind, funny, talented and devoted to his craft and his students. He is greatly missed.

Please check back here for future dates.

Planning for an Art Workshop to France is in the works!
Dordogne area of France; Brantome, Sarlat

Dordogne area of France; Brantome, Sarlat

If you have visited or heard about the Dordogne River Region in France, you know it is absolutely breathtaking. With it's picturesque country towns, old villages and castles, quaint architecture and beautiful river views, it is an artist's paradise..

The French tend to refer to this area not as "la Dordogne" but as "le Périgord", and in France the area is most famous for its gourmet delights, notably paté de foie gras, walnuts and truffles.

We will fly in and out of Bordeaux with an Optional 3 night add-on to Paris and a day painting in the gardens of Giverny.

Please check back here for dates and more information or contact Pamela Sexton at 804.501.6605 or email: I hope to share painting the beautiful landscape of the Dordogne with you!
